Why invisible grills
Invisible grills are for flat owners who want their children, pets and elderly parents safe on the balcony without putting the whole family behind bars. Thin stainless-steel cables run from a track at the top of the opening to a track at the bottom, tensioned hard enough to take a real load and set close enough that a child cannot pass through. An invisible grill is the modern alternative to a welded MS grill: thin 316 stainless-steel cables tensioned across a balcony or window, set close enough to stop a child and anchored into the structure. It protects children, pets and elderly parents without turning the balcony into a cage.
What separates a good installation from a cheap one
On the day it is fitted, a cheap invisible grill looks the same as a good one. The difference appears a year later — cable in a lower grade that stains near the sea, anchors set in plaster that pull loose, cables left slack so the gap slowly opens. Grade, anchoring and tension are the whole job, and they are what we write into every quote.
What invisible grills actually are
An invisible grill is a row of stainless-steel wire ropes stretched vertically across a balcony or window opening and anchored into the structure above and below. Each cable is tensioned individually, and the gap between cables is small enough to stop a child or a pet. Because there is no welded frame across the middle, light, air and the view pass straight through — which is why it is chosen over a conventional MS grill.

Materials and fixing
We use marine-grade 316 stainless-steel wire rope, 2 mm or 2.5 mm thick depending on the span, with a clear nylon coating over the strands. Cables are set 2 inches apart in anodised aluminium tracks fixed at the top and bottom of the opening, and the tracks are held by stainless-steel anchors drilled into the RCC slab or beam — never into plaster alone. Every cable is tensioned individually, and each can be re-tensioned on a later service visit.

Invisible Grills — common questions
Are invisible grills strong enough to stop a child falling?
That is what they are for. Each stainless-steel cable is tensioned individually and anchored into the slab or beam, so the force of someone leaning or pushing against it goes into the structure. The 2-inch gap is set so that a small child cannot squeeze through.
Will the cables rust near the sea?
Not with the right grade. We use 316 stainless steel — the marine grade — with a nylon coating and stainless anchors. Lower grades and unbranded cable are what stain and weaken on coastal balconies.
How is the price of an invisible grill worked out?
Invisible grills are priced by the square foot of the opening, and the rate depends on the cable thickness and the fixing conditions. We measure on site and give you a detailed quote before any work starts.
Can the grill be removed in an emergency, or if we move?
Yes. The cables can be cut quickly in an emergency, and the whole system can be taken down later — removing the tracks leaves only the anchor holes to fill.
