Materials and fixing
We use marine-grade 316 stainless-steel wire rope, 2 mm or 2.5 mm, with a clear nylon coating over the strands so there is nothing rough at a child's hand height. Cables are set 2 inches apart in anodised aluminium tracks at the head and foot of each opening, anchored with stainless-steel fixings into the RCC slab or beam — never into plaster alone. Each cable is tensioned individually and can be re-tensioned as the system settles.

How do I know the spacing is safe for my child?
We fit at a 2-inch gap, which is set so a small child cannot pass between the cables. You can check it yourself on the finished job — and the spacing is written into your quote before we start.
Can a child climb an invisible grill?
There is nothing to climb. The cables run vertically with no horizontal members, unlike a conventional railing where the horizontals act as steps.
Is it safe if my child pushes against it?
Yes. Each cable is tensioned and the tracks are anchored into the slab or beam, so the load goes into the structure rather than into the plaster.
Should I also look at a safety net?
On a very wide opening a knotless balcony safety net can cost less and covers the full height too. We quote both on the same visit so you can compare.
